Our Story
Peter Cat Records was born from a love of music, memory, and connection.
The name itself is a tribute to one of my favourite writers, Haruki Murakami a storyteller who has always understood how deeply music can shape a life. Before he became known around the world for his novels, Murakami ran a jazz club called Peter Cat. That spirit stayed with me — the quiet magic of a room filled with records, conversation, and the kind of music that reaches places words cannot.
But Peter Cat Records is also deeply personal.
It is inspired by the tradition of the Japanese kissaten intimate listening spaces where time slows down and music is treated with reverence. Places where listening is not background noise, but an experience.

That sensibility feels close to my heart not only because of my love for jazz, but because of my Japanese heritage. My mother is Japanese (Hamada/Fukushima), and through her I inherited a connection to a culture that values beauty, atmosphere, ritual, and the small details that make a space feel meaningful.
Peter Cat Records is where those worlds meet. It is a place shaped by jazz and story, by Japan and memory, by vinyl and soul. Every album on the shelf carries its own voice. Every visit is an invitation to slow down, listen closely, and find something that speaks to you.
In a fast-moving world, Peter Cat Records is meant to be a gentle place. A place to pause. A place to connect. A place to remember that music still has the power to transform an ordinary moment into something lasting.
